Brush strokes come to an end

India’s renowned painter Maqbool Fida Hussain dies at London following a cardiac arrest on 9th June 2011.

Popularly known as MF, the 95 year old artist was celebrated globally for his intricate show of fine strokes on the canvas. Having received all the highest civilian awards from the Indian Government – The Padmashri (1955), Padma Bhushan (1973), Padma Vibhushan (1991), Hussain’s paintings have won wide acclaim at prestigious festivals and fetched the highest prices.

He was associated with the Indian Film Industry in producing and directing films like Gaja Gamini with Madhuri Dixit and Menaxi: A tale of three cities with Tabu. A career marred by controversies, he spent the last years of his life away from India.
