Manaki Okke Suryam, Okke Ghantasala!


So was the slogan that the auditorium of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan in Hyderabad reverberated with on the 28th and 29th November 2011.


Cultural confluence organized in tribute to Padma Shri Ghantasala Venkateswara Rao

The Kala Pradarshini Centre of Arts, Chennai under Smt. Parvati Ravi Ghantasala paid tribute to the great artist, poet and scholar composer – Ghantasala Venkateswara Rao by bringing under one roof, the entire gamut of classical dances of India. Bharatanatyam as a self presentation, Kuchipudi by Hyderabad’s very own Deepika Reddy, Kathak by Mangala Bhatt, Odissi by Parwati Dutta, Mohiniattam by Gopika Verma and Kathakali by Hari Padam made up the sparkling ensemble. Stalwarts in their respective styles, the artistes danced in parts and together to the magical songs tuned by Ghantasala.

Shri Ramanamurthy Rao representing the Culture Ministry of Andhra Pradesh, Dr. Pappu Venugopal Rao, Shri Ramanacharya, and a host of cultural bigwigs graced the occasion and lauded the commendable effort from the artiste fraternity even as they were overwhelmed with the contribution of Shri Gantasala to the Telugu land’s culture and heritage.
