"True education cannot come from crowded classrooms"

What better a place for quoting this reverberating phrase than the ever innovating precincts of the University of Hyderabad, where an all round development of every student in its campus becomes a motto!

Leela Samson, the face of Kalakshetra and of new age classical dancing in India had a bunch of these quotes and more in her talk “Nayika and the self” as a part of the third Nataraja Ramakrishna Lecture organized by the Sarojini Naidu School of Arts and Communication on the 3rd Nov 2011.

Padma Shri Leela Samson welcomed by the Vice Chancellor
This being the first lecture after the legendary artiste’s sad demise in June, the event wore a gracious look with dance aficionados of the city paying their tribute and fondly remembering Dr. Nataraja Ramakrishna, albeit a gloomy afternoon session. Apart from a wonderfully crafted movie recalling the life and work of Dr. NRK and the array of close to 42 books of his on display, the event in all glory was a humble salutation to his contribution to the world of classical dance.

The most fitting way was to share knowledge and education and when it is Leela Samson herself, one cannot ask for more! I am not going to extend on to the cliché reporting but leave you with a few one liners and quotes by the Legend himself and those which filled Leela Samson’s talk and allow the rest of the story to unfold visually through the images...
